The project is a top-floor renovation and penthouse addition of an existing building on the Lower East Side of Manhattan. Public and Family zones are created by the placement of the penthouse in relation to the existing fourth floor. Levels are scaled and tuned relative to one another to evoke the different nature of the specific spaces. The penthouse addition serves as the main entrance, formal living and

dining area. Large openings and outdoor spaces are incorporated to bring together the formal interior space of the penthouse and the neighborhood and city. The fourth floor is configured to serve the daily needs of the family, providing bedrooms and bathrooms in separate wings for the adults and children, bridged by expansive support, play and family rooms. |
