This 5,500sf project repurposes an old paper factory floor and adds a new penthouse and roof terrace. RMA reconstructed the west façade with a dramatically angled window that frames a protected Hudson River view. Despite its urban site the penthouse feels like a secluded pavilion, an island from which the river and Tribeca rooftops are visible. RMA manipulated light to create connections between the renovated existing floor and the new spaces above. Light enters the three-level stair and filters through glass treads; a strip of light continues around the perimeter of the living space. Sculptural skylights appear on the terrace as objects in fields of tall grasses.
